how politics can ruin a good cause: the Komen Kerfuffle

leave a comment »

Regardless of one’s position on the Komen decision to de-fund Planned Parenthood, and then reverse that decision, the new reality for the group is a perfect example of how severe a toll politics can take on a good cause.

Komen did themselves no favors by using confusing and shifting arguments to support their decision to de-fund Planned Parenthood, and in the end, did the same thing when they decided to reinstate potential funding for PP. As a result, Komen has lost a lot of favor from both sides of their supporters.

Cancelling the PP funding was all political, they said. And they withdrew their support.

Reinstating the PP funding was all political, they said. And they, too, walked away.
